What we do

  • Leaking radiators, radiator valves and tails
  • Replacing radiator valves and thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs)
  • Bleeding radiators and balancing a system so every room heats evenly
  • Radiators that are cold at the bottom, or cold in some rooms
  • Moving, adding or replacing radiators
  • Leaks on heating pipework under floors and behind units
  • Re-pressurising a sealed heating system and finding out why it keeps dropping

What we don’t do

We don’t work on gas appliances. Servicing, repairing or replacing a gas boiler legally needs a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your problem sounds like the boiler itself, such as no ignition or a fault code, we’ll tell you on the phone so you can call the right person.

Cold radiators: what they’re telling you

Cold at the top, warm at the bottom usually means air in the radiator. It needs bleeding. On a sealed system, you’ll then need to top the pressure back up.

Cold at the bottom, warm at the top often points to sludge settling in the radiator, which builds up over years in older systems.

Some radiators hot, others barely warm usually means the system needs balancing, or a valve is stuck shut. TRVs that haven’t moved all summer are a common culprit.

Everything cold may be the boiler, the pump or the controls. If it’s the boiler, you’ll need a Gas Safe engineer.

Boiler pressure keeps dropping

Most modern Bristol homes have a sealed heating system with a pressure gauge on or near the boiler. If the pressure falls repeatedly and you have to keep topping it up, water is escaping somewhere. That’s often a weeping radiator valve, a joint under a floor, or the pressure relief pipe outside. We’ll find the leak on the water side and fix it.

Questions

Do you service boilers?

No. Boiler servicing and repairs on gas boilers need a Gas Safe registered engineer. We work on radiators, valves, pipework and system pressure.

Is replacing a radiator valve a big job?

Usually not. Most single valve replacements are quick, and we’ll give you a free quote over the phone first.

Should I bleed my radiators every year?

Only if they’re cold at the top or you can hear gurgling. If you need to bleed them often, something is letting air into the system, and that’s worth looking at.
