Plumbing in Patchway

Patchway lies in South Gloucestershire, just north of Filton, with Bradley Stoke to the east and Aztec West on its northern edge. It was a small village until the aircraft industry arrived around 1920, and Rolls-Royce is still a major employer here. Its housing came in waves: the Patchway Estate in the 1930s, bungalows at Stoke Lodge in the 1950s and early 1960s, a large estate in the mid-1960s, and more recently Charlton Hayes, where building began in 2009. The town is close to the M5 and the A38, and Patchway station sits on the main line between Bristol and South Wales.

Each of those eras has its own plumbing habits. Pre-war houses have often had their supply pipes and drains patched more than once, and it is worth knowing their condition before a new kitchen or bathroom goes in. In bungalows, the kitchen, bathroom and heating are all on one floor, so a hidden leak can spread across several rooms before anyone spots it. The 1960s homes are now old enough that original stop taps and valves are often stiff or seized, while the newest houses at Charlton Hayes have plastic pipework and modern sealed heating systems. Outside taps and garden plumbing are common requests too, given the gardens many of these homes have. Whatever the age of the house, hard Bristol water is the same, and limescale in taps, cisterns and showers is a regular cause of call-outs.

Common Patchway jobs

  • Stop taps that won’t turn off
  • Leaks under floors and behind kitchen units
  • Blocked toilets and drains
  • Radiators and heating pipework (no gas work)
  • Outside taps and garden plumbing

Just over the Bristol boundary

Patchway sits outside the Bristol city boundary, but for plumbing that makes little difference. Your water still comes from Bristol Water, and it is just as hard as in the city, so limescale builds up in the same way. Sewerage is still handled by Wessex Water, which took on shared sewers and lateral drains in October 2011. We cover Patchway in the same way as anywhere in north Bristol, with same-day visits as standard and emergency call-outs where we aim to be with you within the hour. Free quotes are usually given over the phone, and there is no call-out fee and no VAT to add.
