Plumbing in Hengrove
Hengrove lies between Knowle, Whitchurch and Bishopsworth, along the A37 Wells Road and the Airport Road dual carriageway. Hengrove Park takes up part of the former Whitchurch Airport, and South Bristol Community Hospital and Hengrove Park Leisure Centre now stand there. The park is also one of Bristol’s largest regeneration sites, with plans for a substantial number of new homes. Away from the main roads, the residential streets are made up mostly of terraced houses, with a range of other homes built over the twentieth century. The MetroBus M1 route ends at Hengrove Park, linking the area with the city centre and the north of Bristol.
Plumbing in Hengrove’s older houses has generally been updated in stages. A modern boiler might sit alongside original radiators, or a new bathroom might drain into a clay pipe that has been in the ground for decades. Each upgrade solves one problem but can expose another, such as a radiator valve that won’t seal once the system is refilled, or a drain that can’t cope with a power shower. Hard water from Bristol Water adds scale throughout, from kettles to cylinders. When something does go wrong, it helps to know where your stop tap is and how to bleed a radiator, and we’re happy to show you both while we’re there. Small problems caught early rarely turn into emergencies.
Common Hengrove jobs
- Radiator replacements and valve repairs
- Leaks on old pipe joints
- Blocked kitchen sinks and outside gullies
- Toilet repairs and replacement cisterns
- Kitchen plumbing for new appliances
Older homes and new builds
Hengrove has both long-established streets and newer housing, and the two bring different problems. In older homes it’s usually wear: tired valves, scaled pipes and drains that have shifted. In newer homes, push-fit plastic pipework is quick to install, but a joint that wasn’t fully seated can start to weep months later. Bathroom sealant shrinks as a house settles, letting water into the floor, and outside taps are often missing. If a new home is still under a builder’s warranty, check with them first. Once that has run out, or for anything it doesn’t cover, we can help with leaks, toilets, showers and drains. Most of those jobs can be quoted over the phone before we arrive, with no call-out fee.
