Plumbing in Bishopsworth

Bishopsworth was once a village in the Somerset parish of Bedminster, and its old centre still has St Peter’s Church and the Grade II* listed Bishopsworth Manor. Large parts were brought into Bristol in the 1930s, and the fields around the village gave way to housing estates. Headley Park, on the eastern side, was built in the years just before the war, and more homes followed after it. Today the area has a high proportion of council housing alongside privately owned homes, with Hartcliffe and Withywood close by to the south. Pockets of green space and woodland break up the housing in places, and Dundry Hill rises to the south.

That spread of ages means the plumbing can change a lot from one street to the next. Older cottages and houses near the village centre may have awkward drain runs and pipework that has been altered many times by different owners. On the estates, homes were built to standard layouts, which makes it easier to know where to look for a stop tap or a manhole. The catch is that much of that original pipework, along with the drains, is now well past middle age and starting to show it. Typical signs include stained ceilings below bathrooms, stiff stop taps and drains that take longer to clear than they used to.

Landlords and rented homes

A good share of homes in Bishopsworth are rented, from the council, a housing association or a private landlord. If you rent from the council or a housing association, repairs are normally reported to them first. Private landlords and their tenants can call us directly, and we’re happy to work with either. We’ll arrange access with the tenant, do the job, and give the landlord a clear account of what we found and what we fixed. Leaks and blocked drains are best dealt with the same day, before water damage turns a small repair into a much bigger one, and same-day service is our standard. If you’re a tenant and your landlord has asked you to arrange the repair, just tell us when you call and we’ll keep them informed.
