Plumbing in Lockleaze
Lockleaze was built straight after the Second World War as a council estate on the western side of Purdown, where the BT tower is a landmark visible across much of the city. Gainsborough Square is the local centre, Horfield lies to the west and Filton to the north, and the open slopes of Purdown and Stoke Park give the area plenty of green space. Lockleaze School opened in 1954 and St Mary’s Church followed in 1956, and Trinity Academy has since replaced the old school. The M32 runs along the eastern side, giving quick access to the city centre.
Many of the original houses are now privately owned, and their plumbing tends to mix several eras. Drains are often the original clay, while supply pipes, bathrooms and heating have been redone at different times by different people. Because the estate is on a slope, some gardens sit above or below the house, which affects how gullies and drains cope in heavy rain. More recently Lockleaze has seen a lot of new housing, including council-led regeneration and housing association schemes, so newer homes now sit alongside the post-war ones. That makes Lockleaze one of the more varied areas we cover, with very different jobs from one street to the next. One visit might be a tired post-war bathroom, the next a leak in a flat that is only a few years old.
Common Lockleaze jobs
- Leaking joints in boxed-in pipework
- Blocked drains on older and newer homes
- Toilet and cistern repairs
- Heating pressure loss and radiator problems (no gas work)
- Kitchen sink and washing machine plumbing
New-build homes in Lockleaze
Newer houses and flats usually have plastic push-fit pipework, sealed heating systems and compact layouts with pipes hidden behind boxing. When something goes wrong, it is often a push-fit joint that wasn’t fully seated, a waste pipe that has worked loose, or a heating system that keeps losing pressure. If your home is still under a developer’s warranty, check with them first. Once it isn’t, or if they can’t help, we can trace and repair the leak and sort out the rest. We don’t do gas work, so boiler faults need a Gas Safe engineer, but we can repressurise systems, fix leaking radiators and valves, and deal with the water side of heating.
